It left me wondering why he didn't use docbook2x and why O'Reilly's
editors don't use an XML editor that saves them being bothered by lack
of whitespace between tags.

What is reST?

I use info because I use Emacs, but these days the Texinfo can be
translated into more than just .info files.

The idea for translating Texinfo XML to FO is more to bolster adoption
of xmlroff than because I'm a fan of Texinfo: I've written two Emacs
modes but never managed to write info files for them because I'd rather
use XML (or, once upon a time, SGML).
