[xmlroff] Getting ready for xmlroff 0.5.3

I am ready to release xmlroff 0.5.3, but I find that I am running out of
the energy necessary to implement #87, "Add ability to preload reference
version with sample output in testsuite", which would make it easier for
any of you to test the release.

Is there anybody who's up for a bit of Perl or XSLT (it could be done
either way) in the name of maxing it easier to test xmlroff?
